Kitchens, Part 2

Previously I asked readers to share their ideas about an ideal kitchen- what does it have, what must it never have, and that sort of thing. We're still interested in your ideas, btw, so if you have something to contribute to that discussion, go here and share.

One of the things I have noticed is how different our ideal kitchens can look. One friend of mine doesn't want so many cupboards that the kitchen looks like a locker room, and she wants an eat-in kitchen. I don't care how much like a locker room it looks if only it has enough cupboards, and I don't want an eat in kitchen. Gema loves her side by side refrigerator; I think mine is the most inefficient use of fridge space I have ever seen.

When we talk about the floor plan and appliances of a kitchen, we're all going to have different ideas because we all use our kitchens in different ways. If I had a smaller family, I probably would like my side by side better.

But there are some things every family kitchen should have:

The fear of the Lord:
Prov 15:16
Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Love:
Proverbs 15:17
Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

Peace
Prov 17:1
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

Wisdom
Prov 14:1
Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Pleasant conversation
Prov 25:25
As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Diligence
Prov 31:27
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

Family harmony
Ps 133:1
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Merriness
Prov 15:15
... he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

1 Chr 16:29
29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
(KJV)

Beauty
Ps 90:17
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

thanks for the scriptures...keeps it in perspective for me!

Wouldn't those be nice lettered in calligraphy strategically around the kitchen where one could happen upon them while gazing around the room?

Gem, I was thinking that very thing. Actually, I have two on our kitchen walls in this house- Commit thy ways unto the Lord and the one about a merry heart being a continual feast.

And inside the one bathroom above the one door I wrote, "How long a minute is depends upon which side of this door you are!"
