To Narnia!

This morning Pip finished reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe to the First Years. We do not ordinarily recommend gulping down books in this fashion, but this isn't their first time hearing the book, so I hope they won't suffer for it.=)

The First Year Girl says she is most looking forward to seeing how the movie shows Lucy meeting Mr. Tumnus. She wants to know if it's going to look just the same way she's pictured it.

The First Year Boy says he likes too many parts of the story to choose a favorite, but upon being pressed, can you guess which scene he is most interested in seeing on film? Peter fighting the wolf.

For my part, I want to see it all. I expect to be a wee bit disappointed, but then again... in the previews and trailers I have seen the large country house is the house that I have had in my head ever since I first read the Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe over 30 years ago. It was rather startling to see one's own daydream in brick and wood up on the computer screen.

I understand that for Lucy's first glimpse of Narnia they did not allow the actress to actually see the Narnia set until the moment when the character first laid eyes on it, so her wide eyed astonishment is genuine. I like that.

Blogs 4 God is hosting a roundup of what various bloggers are saying about the Narnia movies and C.S. Lewis today. I just gave it a brief skim because I want to save myself for the movie, but it looks very interesting. I imagine we can spend a lot of time there later this weekend.

  1. Ahh I can't wait. Their handling of Lucy reminds me of the Goonies.

The directors did the same thing with the kids and the pirate ship... They slid down that big slide and then saw the ship for the first time...

  2. It looks like my dh is going to lose his battle to have us all see the movie together the first time. One of our members won't be around until Dec 23rd and the others are balking at waiting. We just read the "wolf" chapter a minute ago and I plan on finishing the final 4 chaps tonight for my first timers ( 7yo & 4yo) not sure if the 4yo will make the cut anyway, although I admit he has seen a few orcs already.

  3. We went to a midnight showing last night and I had the same sense you described about having the visual images line up nearly perfectly with what I had imagined! Others remarked on the same fact. It was very amazing!!
