Sweetness

Strider and the HG

She comes home from Texas today. Can't wait!!

And then just a few more weeks until the wedding- these two are so giddy it's hilarious. The FYG does a very creditable imitation of the HG looking moon-eyed over Strider, and the HG laughs along with us and says she LIKES being moony over Strider, and since Strider likes it, too, who are we to gag a little bit over the sap factor around here?

We're her family, that's who.=)

While looking through umpteen totes of uncatalogued pictures for their slide show, we came across this gem:

About 11 or 12 years after this photograph was taken, the young man in the yellow shirt married the young lady in the pink shirt.
And we had no idea.

In the years following that picture, we would move to three different states and four different houses and go through some wonderful times (new babies!) and fairly crushing experiences (can't talk about it). He would grow up, join the army, serve in Iraq (he was there in the first weeks of the invasion), lose half his hearing, serve his time, live in Korea, Oklahoma, and Texas, lose his way, find his way, and always, always, keep in touch with us.

Yes, this is Shasta, back in the day when he was a kid I used to babysit and the son of a friend as opposed to now when he's the man who loves my daughter and puts in 96 hour work weeks when called for, and can make us all nearly helpless with laughter because he is so hilarious, and is my favorite son-in-law for another few weeks- and then he'll be my favorite and Strider will be my other favorite.

You can see why we loved him even then- he's about 14 or 15 and he's doing a three legged race with the Cherub, and next to them, watching to make sure her sister is okay, is the Equuschick, who is going to be doing a three legged race with JennyAnyDots.

We are blessed, and we know we don't deserve it. We know this so painfully that sometimes I hold my breath, waiting for the rug to be yanked from beneath my feet. We are so grateful. Pin It
