In New Jersey, the Republican Christie beat out the Democrat Corzine, even though
Obama campaigned heavily for Corzine, calling him his “partner” and putting his prestige on the line. Joe Biden made a couple of campaign appearances, too, and the White House supervised the campaign in the final weeks after Corzine initially fell behind. Obama made the argument for Corzine all about Obama — and New Jersey, one of the bluest states in the nation, rejected him.
And in Virginia Republican Bob McDonnell soundly trounced the Democrat Creigh Deeds. In Maine voters voted against redefining marriage.
On MSNBC, which the Whitehouse says is actually a news organization, when it became obvious the Democrats were going to lose VA and NJ, MSNBC decided to go with reruns instead of, well, news. They just reran Olberman's commentary from two hours before (when it wasn't yet obvious the media's party was losing those two important races).
And while all this was going on, what was the President doing? Well, he wasn't watching the election results, which, actually, I think is fine, I am sure that he has 'people' to do this for him and report back (update: and, indeed, Gibbs says that's what was happening. So no big deal, like I said).
