Blynken helped me make more play dough last night, but he wasn't as impressed as I hoped he would be. It was too easy to be fun, I think.
We mixed up:
1 cup of water
1 cup of white flour
1 cup of salt
1 tablespoon of cream of tartar
1 tablespoon of oil
and some colored crystals of undetermined origin or purpose from the thrift shop-, the stuff I mentioned a few days ago that makes it look sort of flecked, like granite.
We stirred this in a small pan over the stove until it started to clump together into a ball, then I stirred it a minute or so more. Then I dumped it out of the pan onto a plastic tray and kneaded it a few times, turning my hands bright red because it was still pretty hot. You can also put it in a plastic bag and knead it that way, with a towel around the bag to insulate your hands and this, I suppose, is how a smarter and more patient women would have done it.
"So," I asked. What do you think of making play dough?"
"Ah, not much," said Blynken. "What should I think about it? You just put stuff in a pan and cook it."
He thinks playing with the play dough is better.
"But isn't it neat," I asked, "that you can make play dough with stuff in the kitchen instead of going to the store and buying it?"
"Well," said Blynken, "What's fun is getting to play with the play dough, because at home we're not allowed to play with it anymore because Nod sticks it in the carpet."
"Yes," says Nod proudly. "and I also put it in my mouth."
"Sometimes when I am a baby I put play-dough in my mouth," he explained.

"And this, I suppose, is how a smarter and more patient women would have done it." Someone, unlike myself ;-) I so enjoy following "The Adventures of Blynken and Nod at The Common Room"
