I do like accent balls. No, I don't know why. They are silly, frivolous dust catchers, but I like them. I have two 'store-boughten' ones- one of them I looked at and coveted for a long time every time I went to Gordman's, which at that time was often. We were planning a wedding, and Gordman's had great stuff in their sale department, so we went in regularly to see what new things were marked down.
Every time we were there, I went to visit the accent balls, and one day I went in and the one I liked best was on sale, half price! Then one of the Progeny bought one for me when she found it on sale.
Two accent balls is not the right number, however. Then I remembered I had a glass fisherman's ball picked up off the beach in Okinawa years ago. And then I remembered we had some old battered croquet balls in the garage, so battered the paint was faded to the point where you really needed to know they had been croquet balls in a previous life to know that's what they were. They belonged to my grandparents and are probably sixty years old or more. They look lovely in my primitive wooden bowls, from The Rattery! I also made some by weaving a weedy vine around a blown up balloon and letting it dry, but that was two years ago, and they didn't really survive an attempt at juggling by Blynken and Nod, so this fall I will try it again.

Accent balls...we call them Emma magnets. Definitely not for a few more years (grin).
ReplyDeleteIs it a bad sign if, whenever I think of accent balls, my mind immediately turns to calculating odds on which method my boys would use to destroy them, and how long it would take before one of them makes the obvious scatological joke?
