At each habitat you learn something about that habitat and what makes it unique, and you learn about the different kinds of animals and plants that live there. There are animals hiding on every page, and the illustrations are interesting and engaging.
However, I discovered why this book is not a good bedtime story book when I got to the last page where Crinkleroot asks something like this:
"We've seen 89 different animals as we have traveled through the different animal habitats. Did you find them all?"
*Wow. This is apparently a very popular book. Paperbacks at Amazon start at 40 dollars. There's one 20 dollar copy at Alibris (see how it pays to compare?), and one at Abebooks that starts at around 20 dollars (probably the same copy, actually) Pin It

I've had Crinkleroot on my PBS wishlist for ever-so-long. I haven't found even one of the many books EVER in all of my searching.
