Constitutional Conservatives and Republicans (and they aren't the same thing) are sick and tired of the establishment, Old School, Political Class Republicans.
They are sick and tired of the Political Class Republicans anointing one of their cronies.
They are fed up with the media slanting, and in some cases imply making up, their stories to help bury the candidates they don't like and lying for and burying the flaws of the candidates they do.
They are sick to the teeth of the phony journalism that means the media ignores and buries factual stories of ongoing dirt, mud and sleaze when it comes to Democrats and digging up (and making up) dirt about events ten, twenty, thirty years ago and more when it comes to candidates they don't like.
It happened with Cain- the first response after the media came out on attack was soaring support.
It happened with Gingrich.
The public is telling the establishment, you do not get to shove your candidates down our throats, and it is telling the media, stop your lying, deceptive, slanted, lazy groupthink stories, and start doing some real journalism, making an attempt at being unbiased.

What I think: The Real Take Away from Gingrich's Surge

I don't know if I agree with the implication that you are making. I do agree that people are fed up with the media essentially taking sides (I'm one of those people).
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do think that Newt Gingrich, at least on this issue, should not be taking on the media. He is running on the conservative ticket. He is running on the family vaules ticket. He should be fully prepared to answer to the fact that he has been married three times, and he should have been prepared to answer his ex-wive's stories. CNN should not have led with that question, but it should be asked, and Mr. Gingrich should have to answer.
Oh, and let's not forget that he was fired from the Speaker of the House position for an ethics violation. Or that the lobbying issue for Fannie and Freddie have not been answered. Gingrich is big-government all the way.
You can't run on the conservative, family-values ticket and not be expected to answer for things in your life that do not match those values. A little honesty and straight-talk was called for there. Not grand-standing. It worked for him once, but I don't think that it will continue.
I can't tell how anything in your comment contradicts my point. I seem to have been very unclear, or your disdain for Newt obscured it, as you appear to think my 'implication' is that Newt is clean as the driven snow, a conservative, and somebody I'd vote for and think others should, too.
ReplyDeleteNot so. Not at all, in fact. I am pretty sure I'll be voting for Santorum or a third party candidate.
The point of my post isn't whether or not all the things you said about him are true or not (most of them are true, there's a couple that lack some context or are exaggerated), it's that the public is well aware the media wouldn't be the least bit interested in any of those things if he were a Democrat , unless he was a Democrat running against Obama.
My intention isn't to encourage people to vote for Newt.
I am explaining why I think his support surged rather than plummeted immediately after the hit piece with a very bitter ex-mistress/wife aired at a very 'convenient' time. People who would not have otherwise voted for him did- the reason he surged isn't because he's a great candidate, it's because people are getting sick enough of the media bias that they are starting to hit back.
Democrats also run on family values, btw. It's a media/Democrat lie that only Republicans run on that issue. And the Democrats can and do run on a family values ticket and expect that they will never be called to answer for the things in their lives that do not match those values.
President Obama during the few short years he was Senator received more lobbying money from Fannie Mae than anybody else but the disgraced Chris Dodd. Have we heard anything abotu that from the media? Nope.
There have been allegations of an affair between Obama and Vera Baker, and Michelle and a Secret SErvice agent. Do I believe them? Not particularly, but they are more recent and just barely less credible than the much older and originally anonymous allegations the media dug up on Cain. Yet, strangely, we've heard all about them, and nothing about the Obama allegations. An increasingly aware public is well aware it's not because the media actually cares one way or the other about what did or did not happen in Chicago ten years ago with Cain. It's because they care about helping Obama any way they can. It's worked for a while now, but it's not going to work forever.
The same media that insisted the private lives of candidates really did not matter when it was Clinton and Edwards have no credibility when reporting on Gingrich's private messes.
I'm sorry. I had just been yelling at the TV over a "Gingrich is great! He takes on the Media (But the Media is not Really Culpable)!" story, and then I sat down and read this post. I think that I read it out of context.
ReplyDeleteBTW, did you see the Sate of the Union? Who needs comedy when the President is trying to sell his position as a proponet of Small Government? Thehehehehe.......
Kara, I missed the SOU speech. Kind of on purpose.
ReplyDeleteDid he really try to claim he was for small government? Seriously?
