Genetic Swallowing Reflex Disorder?

It was The Equuschick's uncle who said it first, many years ago when he was but a wee lad, and The Equuschick wasn't even a gleam in her mother's eye, because her mother was then barely 6 herself. The Grandma had baked pumpkin pies, or some such other treat, for a ladies function, and all children were under strict instructions to leave them alone. And when Granny Tea came down one morning and found them all gone, she demanded of The Equuschick's very small uncle an explanation. She was informed that they just "hopped in my mouth, and flew right down my throat!" He was quite offended when this explanation was not received as genuine.

And as new evidence of genetic tendencies come to light, perhaps he was treated too harshly. This afternoon the FYB came to The Equuschick to request a second Starburst, because the first one he ate "was swallowed, and it wasn't ready to be swallowed yet." The Equuschick wanted to know why he swallowed it before its time, but you see, the FYB had no control. "I didn't! I just chewed it once, and then again, and it went straight down my throat!"

Perhaps a coincidence, or perhaps a genetic disorder that requires special treatment and medication. These poor victims of their own inability to prevent things flying down their throat need to be treated with respect and toleration. After all, its clearly in the genes.

  1. Does this Genetic Swallowing Reflex Disorder only affect males? ;)

  2. Only the males in our family have claimed that the swallowing had nothing to do with any act of will on their parts- it just happened to them!
