This is just amazing

  2. My 11 year old son had the opportunity to participate in a week-long science camp on a military base this past spring. One of the things he and some peers did was to design an object (something space related--can't remember what it was, but he has it on a key chain) and have one of these machines print out the object. My son was explaining what they had done, and I thought he was all mixed up, telling me about something that sounded like science fiction. We toured the area where the printer was at the end of the week, and my family and I were floored as the scientist was explaining it all to us.

    I was showing this video to my hubby and son, and Hubby mentioned the 3D printer used at Starbase (the program my son was in) worked a bit differently: it used strands of material to print the object. Or something. I can't describe the process because it makes as much sense to me as a teleporter or a food replicator from the old Star Trek series. :)
