Drama Mama

At the Holiday Grand Plan this week we are doing 'questions week,' where we find out about our values, and also deep cleaning the LIving Room, Decluttering, and baking one extra meal marked "HOLIDAY" and tucked into the freezer- among other things.

At Homemaker's Challenge it's Day Three of the challenge based on the books 31 Days to Clean Challenge. 31 Days to Clean - Having a Martha House the Mary Way

I am not sure where I should be there- lists of things to clean? A mission statement on why I want to clean? And I think this week is the fridge.

Me?  I don't have to ask questions to find out my values.  Right now, I value me some sleep.  I just got back from the E.R.

Yes.

Again.

Really.

THAT E.R.

The Equuschick was having a nasty asthma attack and after three albuterol treatments with the nebulizer she still didn't feel at all well.  But Shasta had to leave for work in an hour and a half, and for the first time in days and days and days if not ever, the Dread Pirate Grasshopper had, thus far, slept through the night.

At 3:30 or so when the call came, fortunately, or oddly, insanely, or unfortunately, depending on your point of view, I had not been to bed yet when the Equuschick called.  I had been up late fixing the HG a lunch, ordering my co-op order online, finishing up my menu, writing a ticklish and delicate email, and visiting with my son-in-law Strider, who is hear for Labor Day with his dear wife and child. He works nights, so he likes to keep to the same schedule more or less.

So Shasta stayed with the DPG and I picked up the EC and Ladybug and took them to the hospital.  The EC could barely walk, had to lean on the wall to catch her breath.  Her blood oxygen sats were at 87-89.  They like it to be 100, but will take the high 90s.  The Striderling's rarely dropped that low in the NICU!

So she had breathing treatments of greater magnitude than could be done at home, an IV shot of steroids, a prescription for Prednisone, an admonition to go see another doctor for more discussion of medications and asthma and breastfeeding.

Meanwhile, Shasta called for Jenny to come sit with the DPG while he left for work.  We passed him on our way home and pulled over into a parking lot so he and the EC could say hello.  We drove him and saw the sunrise.  I offered to make my husband an omelette before he left for work, but he declined.

And now I am going to do my part of organizing this household and go back to bed.

Well, I can't go back to bed, because I haven't been.  I am going to bed and ponder the curveballs in my life.

  1. Lord Jesus, I thank you for this family. I thank you for Your hand in their lives and how much this awful year this blog has encouraged me. Bless them, give them sleep, peace and health. In Your name Lord, Amen.

  2. Oh my!

If the EC can get a copy of Hale's Medications and Mother's Milk, that would be great to take with her to the doctor's office. So many doctors will immediately jump to weaning because they don't like to "take chances" (from their perspective) with medications and nursing. It's good to have well-researched information with you when you go. If she doesn't have a copy, she can usually call a LLL Leader and get information about individual drugs. She could take copied pages of the drugs that have worked and the past and/or anything she thinks the doctor may want to try.

Elderberry syrup is good to try, if she hasn't tried that yet. It's not an immediate fix, but it's good for lung support.
