"But Mom," says the 13 year old boy. "He's dating my sister. I have some rights here!"

So that's the rule, a rule which I think we've discussed before- 'We do not ambush guests with weaponry.'
And addendum might be that he does have a right to plink away at swains should they misbehave. But we don't permit swains who misbehave, so it's a moot point.
That's the rule. There was further conversation.
"He's not dating anybody," says I. "In this family we don't date. He and Jenny are seeing each other."
"I see you every day," he says.
"And you're not allowed to shoot me, either. If you don't like 'seeing each other,' Keeping company, then," I say. "That's a good old fashioned word for it."
There's also a good old fashioned word or two for what might happen to him if he tries shooting at said Swain before he's seen Jenny.
yes, rules I never thought I'd have to make. We have them! And if my boys had an older sister rather than a younger one...I'd probably have to make that rule too!

I love that your kids don't "date"--I think we may subscribe to that way of being when the girls are "that age"--whatever that means--lol!
ReplyDeleteOf course, the swains we might have around here probably would join in the plastic nerf bullet battle, because it's fun. But it's still a good rule. :-)
It does seem that there a lot more "unique" rules for our family than I ever had to have - I wonder if that's because we're home together all the time? I think it's great that you guys don't date - my daughter at age 12 is already interested in the idea of "courtship" and we've talked about that there is no reason to date until you're ready to find the person that God has picked out for them :)
