For our Beehive friends...

A kilt-wearing highschool student was told to change into pants - What gets me about this story is that a vice-principal had seen the kilt beforehand and did not indicate the student wouldn't be allowed to wear it. The principal had a different opinion. So what's the point of having a vice-principal?

  1. Saw this this morning. Perhaps, I'm biased because I'm part Scottish but I see no problem with kilt-wearing. Kilts are clearly male attire.

  2. Did you notice the principal's name? "principal Rick McClard" Maybe the boy was from a warring clan and he didn't want to have to behead the young lad infront of all the other kiddos? :)

  3. Um. Have you never seen your mother and father disagree on how to deal with things? You still need both though.

Sounds like there is a disagreement here between principal and vice-principal on how to implement policy. Obviously, the principal's idea is what goes, just like a father's word in the home.

  4. Athena, that cracked us all up.

Ruth's Boaz- Um. Can you say 'undermining authority?' Sure you can. While parents disagree and in our house father has the final say, father also has the responsibility to demonstrate to the children his respect for the other human beings around him.

If I told my children they could do something, my husband would have a very, very good reason before he'd be over-ruling that, and he'd explain his reasons. Those reasons would not be as stupid as "Well, it's my dance and you look like a clown."
That's just good management, and also good people skills.

Instead, we have this foolishness: Warmack alleges McClard told him: "Well, this is my dance, and I'm not going to have students coming into it looking like clowns." McClard later said he had no recollection of saying that, Warmack's dad said. The principal did not return phone calls seeking comment.

With your version of things, the principal plays micromanager and the students will quickly learn that the vice-presidents say-so is worthless.
