The Welfare State and the Middle Class

The Welfare State and the Middle Class

The truth is that nearly all of us are benefiting from government welfare of one sort or another. Social Security (we didn't pay in what we're taking out, it's a Ponzi scheme), college grants or loans, school lunches, public school itself, Medicare, it's a long, long list.

We all want something for free.  Okay, maybe not quite all, but more than enough of us.  How to pay for it all?  How about this.:
I don’t blame the political parties, the Congress, or the President for the problems we face. Sure, they’ve all played a part in getting us where we are today, but we’re still a representative democracy. The American people have the goverment and the nation they’ve voted for over the past 50 years. The United States has become a long list of interest groups receiving some sort of handout. The people receiving subsides look down on those receiving food stamps. The food stamp recipients envy the rich people who receive subsides. What’s the difference? Welfare is welfare. Both groups vote for a continuation of the status quo. So what can the United States do to raise some revenue?
If the United States wants to be an entitlement nation there are things we must do to pay for it. First of all, if the United States is going to be the “world’s police force” then the world should pay for it. If Korea and Japan want protection from North Korea then they should pay a tax for the United States military. The same could be said of Europe and various nations all over the world. Why should the United States borrow money from China to protect Kuwait? If you want the United States to be your military you better be prepared to pay for it.
It’s time to embrace corporate sponsorships. Who cares about tradition? Corporations could sponsor states. Some great examples would be the United States presented by Wal-Mart, Tropicana Florida, and Microsoft Washington. Why stop there? The White Out White House at Historic Steelworkers Pennsylvania Avenue. I-75 could be renamed the Goodyear Expressway.

Btw, that's a new-to-me blog. Check it out. I really liked the post on how Rick Santorum is Boramir. But then, I'm a sucker for LotR references.
