Household hints-
-from the dingleberriest of housewives.
Hint #1
Use your time more efficiently and reduce the number of phone messages you need to return by leaving the house for the day and accidentally bumping the phone off the hook as you go.
Mama Squirrel has tried that, at least the phone part, but not on purpose. :-( Mr. Fixit was very annoyed after trying to get through for about three hours. (Squirrels do chatter, but that's ridiculous.)
As connected as I am, I do not have an answering machine. I bought one when the loss of my job was imminent in 2002 and disconnected it as soon as I didn't have to catch calls about possible jobs. That two month period was maddening. Most of the calls were advertisements.
My father was furious when I disconnected the answering machine. He seems to think I'm hard to get ahold of -- despite having a cellphone (with voicemail) on my person constantly, a work phone (with voicemail), and email. But for my own sanity I had to get rid of that machine. It was worse than spam.
It might be different today with the national Do Not Call list, but I still don't see a need for anybody on the planet, even people I know, to be able to reach me in this way. Anyone who really needs to get ahold of me always does, eventually. This approach worked for my grandparents.

ReplyDeleteThe DHM didn't do it on purpose, either.=(
