I can visit it, but I forgot to submit a post so I can't 'participate' this week. If you've ever watched Pride and Prejudice, you will remember the scene where Lydia Bennet sulks at the table, stamps her feet and whines, "I want to go to Brighton!!"
I'm sitting at the computer having an internal hissy fit and saying "Ohhh, I wanted to enter the Education Carnival" in precisely the same foolish, silly, and pointless tone. So disappointing! It's one of my favorite of the carnivals, and I'm already having a gloomy, I feel sorry for myself, pity party day. I need to read my own post a few posts back and take my advice, don't I?!
Let's all visit the The Education Carnival at the Education Wonks.
Some entries I would single out for one reason or another:
Dealing with a student who threatens bodily harm- yikes. I am a homeschooler and I think education should not be a function of the federal government. But I do not consider school teachers per se to be my enemy. We are not competing because we are not doing the same thing. This is one of those posts that really brings it home- whatever we think is wrong in public education, my friends, let's never forget how hard a teacher's job can be. Nobody in my homeschool has ever threatened me with bodily harm. Well, except the Head Girl, who, when she was three and in preschool, once threatened to knock my head off.
Another issue homeschooling parents do not have to tolerate- mandatory union dues for activities that teachers do not support.
And yet another issue homeschooling parents do not have to deal with- folks, public school teachers deserve more sympathy than they get from some of us, they really do.
Dewey's Democracy and Education- was it a dangerous book? See here.
Need help with fractions? This post might help.
I'm sure there are other entires at the carnival that would interest y'all, too, so go check it out!
P.S. If I'd been on the ball, I think this is the post I would have submitted this week.
