The Killdeer. According to Edwin Way Teale's "Walk Through the Year" entry for April 5:
High overhead, somewhere beyond the trees, unseen in the sky, the first killdeeer of the year repeats its plaintive, lonely shorebird cry. A new voice for a new season. How pleasant it is to set down all these varied signs of spring!
You seem like the person who would know the answer to both of these questions:
ReplyDelete1. What's the bird that says, "Cheery, cheery, cheerio"? That one sings to us every morning now that it's spring, but I don't think it's the cardinal since he was here all winter.
2. Do you know of a good resource for learning birdcalls (preferably something online and audio)?
