Baker's Shelves
In case you're wondering, the yellow thing bobbies are just car ramps, we put them on the rack to get them off the floor to make room for the other, larger thing-gummies.
Shasta brought the thing-gummies home from work last night. The bakery at the store was throwing them out- he saw them out by the dumpster and asked if he could have them. They said yes.. They are shelves from the bakery- sturdy as all get out, wooden, beautiful, and h-u-g-e. They are on wheels. One set is double sided, and the base of it is so large I think I could fit six six year olds on it with room to spare.
I suggested the menfolk carry the large of the two upstairs to The Common Room where there is a wide open floor space and the kids could pretend it was a raft with sails and push each other around the room. I wasn't even finished talking before the menfolk were gaping at me in disbelief and I knew there was no way. They are awfully heavy shelves. They are also slanted, so I thought it would be a cool thing to put shoes and boots on, but they are too big for my mudroom.
So what might we do them? Ideals are percolating. I may clean out the garage some more and make a mudroom/entry way for our coats, hats, mittens, boots and shoes out in the garage. I might use them as extra pantry storage in the garage. We could put baskets, buckets, and plastic shoeboxes on the shelves and use them for tool storage- out in the garage. I could put spare blankets and sheets on those lovely slanted shelves and have a linen corner instead of a linen closet- say it with me- out in the garage.
What are your thoughts?
I have seen rolling shelves used in gardening when you don't have many sunny spots. You roll the plants to where the sun is during the day. The slanted one might work well for that because it would allow each level sunlight.
ReplyDeleteLOL, all icould think was "wow, nice to put bread on!"
ReplyDeleteThey are AWESOME!! Can any be 'cut down' as in cut in half or split into a top and bottom so you could use them in the house. I'd be looking at that if I got this kind of deal!!
ReplyDeleteYou could open a bakery. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSo, the SIL has completed his course in recycling/reusing taught by his MIL w/flying colors:)
ReplyDeleteActually these could make very good food storage shelves for canned goods. Have someone add vertical strips spaced a can width's apart to separate the cans from each other along with one at the bottom (if necessary) to stop the cans from rolling off), than add the cans (on their sides) from the back. This can help you rotate can goods easily (we have a company locally that makes metal shelves with this concept called Shelf Reliance). You might google them to get a visual of what I'm trying to describe. Of course, I don't know if these are sturdy enough to hold that much weight but the possibilities excite me!
