You can get money wrong, but you can't get life wrong." ~ Thank you, Michele Bachmann! I think this is something many conservative voters miss. Yes, the economy is a mess and needs to be fixed... Yes, Obama needs to go.... but it is shameful to consider our pocketbooks ahead of the lives of unborn, special needs, and elderly.
I have strong libertarian tendencies, but Ron Paul is increasingly losing my respect. I get the eerie feeling that he'd be totally fine with Nazi Germany killing Jews. Also, wow... how out of touch can a man get? Polygamy IS seriously considered by many and is not defunct like slavery. And he never pays attention to the bell.
Why are they ignoring Hermain Cain so much? And giving him cheap questions? Ooh! But I like his, "Bring the money back!" YES.
THANK YOU, Mr. Santorum, for your response on abortion and rape. If it is wrong to kill a man guilty of rape, then why is it okay to kill an unborn baby conceived by that rape? I'm sorry about the bell too.
Gingrich is smoooth in his answers, but really.... so fifteen years ago and so unwilling to talk about Certain Questions.
Romney is... Romney. Very good in his presentation, but I am still finding him very unconvincing. "The unemployment rate in mys tate was less than the federal rate." More specific, please? And I'm sorry, but no.... no state has the right to force me to buy health insurance. He showed how clearly he was missing the big picture when he defended it by saying people were showing up in ERs who were wealthy enough to pay for their medical bills, but letting state funding pay for it instead. Uhm.... why not just stop having the state pay for things instead of forcing more money from the rest of us?
Pawlenty seems cranky towards Bachmann. Really cranky. More set on tearing others down than adding productively to the debate. Perhaps that's unfair of me... but I actually didn't think that before the debate.
Huntsman. Hm. Hadn't heard much about him before this race.... and I'll probably be okay continuing to not hear much about him. Dear sir, moderation is also getting Really Old. It's political code for Making A Lot Of Conservative Promises And Then Following Through With Liberal Policies After You're In Office.

So, those, dear readers, are the quick impressions of the HG as she watches the Striderling play with his grandma and trying to come up with a weekly grocery list. That latter task is a painful reminder of how bad the economy is getting. Ouch.
Ron Paul lost my respect completely with the CPSIA fiasco. He (and his supporters) kept telling people he was the only one who voted against it. That turned out not to be true, there were others. More significantly, this was a sleazy, slimy, weasley, political slight of hand. There were several votes on the CPSIA. he did not vote against it when it really counted. He voted against a procedural issue.
ReplyDeletePawlenty knows that he's fighting Bachman for some of the same votes- the evangelicals. So he has to marginalize her. I'm pretty sure his handlers have pretty much told him he has *got* to go after her.
Hunstman- it's funny that you didn't know much about him given how on target your impression is. He is the Democrat's favorite Republican candidate. Go figure.
Thanks! I enjoyed reading this!
My first look at Pawlenty and not a bad one.
ReplyDeleteDismissed both Huntsman and Paul after the debate. Paul actually angered me and he couldn't win me back if he tried and I consider myself sympathetic to Libertarian ideals.
Loved Santorum.
Bachman was good too. Loved her answer on submission but I thought she misstated Pawlenty's pro-life stance.
